Episode 04 - Risa Bramon Garcia
Risa’s career is an exciting one, from directing 200 Cigarettes, The Con Artist, and more, to her Casting work on shows such as The Affair, Masters of Sex, and Roseanne and movies like SLC Punk!, Speed, Twister, Natural Born Killers, and a film very near and dear to my heart, Benny and Joon.
We met up with Risa in North Hollywood at The BGB Studio, where she and partner Steve Braun- along with their staff- work with actors to develop each person’s unique voice. Risa is a wonderfully open, blunt, and honest person who both loves what she does and comes at it from a pragmatic point of view.
She started out surrounded by incredible creatives including Shel Silverstein, David Mamet, Wendy Wasserstein, Lanford Wilson, and the effects of that sort of New York theater sandbox training ground is clear in her approach to the industry now. The funniest thing to me being, she thought that was normal.
She was a great deal of fun to talk to, enlightening to listen to, and I hope that you’ll enjoy her candor as much as I did.
