Episode 29 - David Guglielmo

Today we speak with a really talented casting director and an absolute lover of film David Guglielmo. David is a jack of many trades, casting just happens to be one he’s quite good at. While casting he also Directs, writes, and produces. Even referring to himself as a casting producer sometimes. We talk about some of his movies like The Standoff at Sparrow Creek which I loved, Hospitality which he co-directed, the horror-comedy Satanic Panic, and the modern grindhouse VFW.

Today we chat with a proper legendary Casting Director and a man who has been on a ton of long-running series, Jeff Greenberg.

Jeff is one of those rare people born and raised in LA. He also happened to grow up obsessed with being an actor and came into casting naturally working in the theater. Decades later he’s cast on everything from Cheers, Fraiser, Wings, Ugly Betty, News Radio, My So-Called Life, and the recently wrapped Modern Family, a show that ran for a whopping 250 episodes.

Today we get to chat with Casting Director duo, Amber Horn and Danielle Aufiero. These awesome and extremely wonderful casting directors hail from two different parts of the world and were seemingly brought together by fate. They have cast together for years, first working together on the Sundance sweetheart Sound of My Voice with Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij - and since then “work has begotten work”. They’ve cast on Andi Mack, The OA, The 100, some incredible indie films like Cheap Thrills, Live Cargo, and Battlecreek just to name a few.

Russell, who hails from South Africa has a very unique intro into the business, from the theater world near Durban, to working with tribes in Africa, and coming all the way to Hollywood to become an advocate for casting directors all of the world. We discuss the importance of opportunity and being able to see yourself in the media we consume, and giving casting directors the voice to be seen and heard in today’s media landscape.

John has been the long-time casting director of shows like ER (of which he did the full 331 episode run), The West Wing, Shameless, Animal Kingdom, Third Watch, the Adventures of Brisco County Jr., and the 7th season of Growing Pains, notable for casting a very young Leonardo DiCaprio, just to name a few.
